Back in January, we covered a report from Italy which claimed Manchester United were interested in Nicolo Barella.

The Premier League club were said to have put a tick next to the Cagliari’s player’s name, but were only looking at the summer 2018 transfer window. At that time it wasn’t thought a deal in the January 2018 transfer window was likely, and whilst there was interest from Old Trafford there appeared to be no rush.

Cagliari were said to be looking for €50m for a winter deal.

Rumours around the player started again recently, and Manchester United have inevitably been pulled back into the picture for the 21 year old central midfielder.

Asked a few days ago about interest from big club, Barella said“I’m not the one who sorts out the transfers. It’s the agents, presidents and clubs who do that. I only think about Cagliari and to stay up in the league. We’ll see about the rest. The interest from big clubs is pleasing, and makes me proud. It means I’m doing the right things.”

Calciomercato are one of those pushing the story and they claim Manchester United, as well as Liverpool, are ‘serious’ about the signing and ‘active’ on the potential move.

Right now this doesn’t feel quite as serious as is being presented.
