The potential Chris Smalling saga had gone a little quiet in the Italian media over Christmas, and now Gazzetta dello Sport bring it right back into the their thinking.
Once again saying there’ll be an ‘English blitz’, Gazzetta now report AS Roma will look to make Smalling’s loan move permanent in the summer rather than before then.
Previously it had been reported the Serie A club would try to find an deal in advance so they could avoid competition.
The Manchester United player is said to have ‘given a mandate to representatives’ to find a transfer agreement with Roma and allow him to stay at the club beyond the summer.
Talks between the parties involved should be held as soon as the ‘middle of next week’, and as they plan for future signings, including that of the defender, Roma will look to make sales.
This will see another ‘English blitz’, with the aim being to get good offers from the Premier League for players including Cengiz Under.
