Tuesday evening was a difficult one for Manchester United, as they battled to get a draw against Atalanta in the Champions League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are now top of their group and looking well placed to qualify, yet there’ll still be frustration after a disappointing performance. A big concern for the Premier League club was seeing Raphael Varane leave the pitch injured in the first half, and the subsequent struggles in defence.

The Frenchman has just come back from a layoff, and it was clear he was forced to call his night short with another issue. L’Equipe now report Varane is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks after tests on Wednesday showed he’s picked a hamstring injury.

Therefore, he’s set to miss the next international break, providing others with options in Didier Deschamps’ France squad.

For Manchester United it will be a bigger blow, although they have the comfort of a chunk of that time being taken up by national games.

Varane will now certainly miss the match against Manchester City, and perhaps the Arsenal match on December 2nd is an optimistic return to aim for.
