Over the past couple of weeks, as the club have been hit by injury issues, Liverpool have been tentatively linked with Quincy Promes.
There’s been no approach or offers, if there’s truth in the plan then it’s clearly at an idea stage, but Promes is an attackerand would likely come reasonably priced in the current market, so it hasn’t been the strangest of links.
Philippe Coutinho’s injury, losing Danny Ings again, and a scare over Sadio Mane has allowed transfer rumours to grow for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
Russian football agent Alexey Safonov has been speaking to SportFakt about Spartak transfers, and insinuated he knows that Memphis Depay moving to the Moscow club is a very possible thing.
Safonov explained that Promes and Depay are close, and the Spartak player has been telling his Manchester United friend all about life in Russia, and was glowing about it.
Then asked about Liverpool’s reported interest in Promes, Safonov said: “According to my information, the Dutch want to help Spartak win the title, and Depay is ready to come to Moscow.”
If a possible Depay and Promes double act comes to fruition, it makes it less likely that Promes is going anywhere. Depay’s big reason, according to the Russian media, for considering Spartak is Promes, and so he surely couldn’t then leave.
This is all very much at an embryonic stage, but the Promes to Liverpool reports may be meeting a timely death, regardless of Depay.
