Inter Milan made a late attempt to sign Matteo Darmian from Manchester United, according to Thursday’s edition of Corriere Dello Sport.

The Italian side were hopeful they could reinforce their right-back in the last days of the market, and they also tried to sign Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus.

They didn’t succeed in either of the cases, and regarding the Italian international, Manchester United sent an official email saying the player was not for sale.

The 26-year-old Italian international is still to make an official appearance under José Mourinho, and that’s on what most of the rumours about his exit were based on.

Darmian signed for Manchester United from Torino for €19m in 2015. He played 39 games in his debut season for the Red Devils, starting off excellently but then fading as the season grew older.
