Manchester United and Inter Milan are in the picture to sign Genoa goalkeeper Josep Martínez.

La Repubblica, relayed by I Love Palermo Calcio, say Inter have shown interest in the 26-year-old.

The Spaniard’s performances for the Serie A side and qualities have seen Manchester United take notice.

Genoa invested €2m to buy the stopper from RB Leipzig in 2023, and their aim is to earn at least €20m, if they decide to sell him.

The Italian champions aren’t willing to meet their request, and their plan is to lower the cost by including one of their own players as part of the deal. Genoa, for their part, would clearly prefer to sell him to the Premier League, where Manchester United have shown interest in Martínez.

AFC Bournemouth are also looking at the stopper, and the report says Genoa are hoping that there will be an auction to sign him this summer.

Journalist Rudy Galetti took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state that Erik ten Hag’s side are internally evaluating whether to make contact today to ask for information about Martínez.

He adds Martínez has agreed a deal with Inter, who are unable to meet the fee requested by Genoa. This could give Manchester United a chance, as long as they are keen on signing him.

Last summer, the Red Devils added André Onana and Altay Bayındır to their squad, with the Turkish stopper being restricted to only one appearance last season.

There’s been rumours of Bayındır wanting to change clubs, and if he were to leave, Ten Hag’s side could consider signing Martínez.
