There’s been several stories over the past week of Manchester United interest in Thiago Almada. The 19 year old plays for Velez Sarsfield, is right footed, and can operate through the middle, or on either side, usually the left.
As ever, a claim can start off rather weak and before long someone insists a move is close. That’s the case with Spanish language website Todo Fichajes on Thursday morning.
They throw themselves headfirst into the story and claim, according to their own information, Manchester United are ‘very close to reaching an agreement’ with Velez Sarsfield for the player.
Those in charge at Old Trafford believe Almada can ‘bring great joy’ to the club’s supporters, and they’re confident a deal can be done. Talks for the transfer are described as being ‘well advanced’.
Despite that, it’s also claimed Jadon Sancho is the first option. In that case it wouldn’t make a great deal of sense to go so far down the line with signing Almada at this stage.
The Argentine would be a cheaper option, but he’s not shown he’s of the same level as Sancho, and would arguably be a greater gamble than other alternatives.
We’ve checked the sport media in Argentina, and there’s nothing independent on this over the past week, they just cover claims coming from the English and Spanish media. Ole states his buyout clause is €22m.
