Earlier today, we covered the optimistic story from Marca regarding Manchester United’s chase for Real Madrid fullback Sergio Reguilón.

The Spanish outlet claimed that the contacts for the transfer have been intensifying, with the La Liga giants only holding out for a buyback clause.

Now as El Español brings an update on the situation, they claim the main issue remains the same, with the clubs disagreeing regarding the clause.

They report that the agreement is ‘very close’. But whilst Real Madrid want to keep the option of bringing Reguilón back, Manchester United aren’t interested in it.

El Español says the only thing separating Reguilón from Old Trafford is the clause issue. They recall that Marcelo is now 32, and Real Madrid want to have the option in their pocket.

They claim that Real Madrid were demanding €30m for the move. Manchester United considered it to be too much, and offered a little less. But, the fee shouldn’t be a problem.

Marca’s article didn’t make it feel like the clause, or lack of it, could kill a deal, so it looks like there’s hope on this one.

With Marca putting the potential cost at €25m, and El Español saying €30m, it could be that the cheaper price relates to a deal with a buyback clause.
