Barcelona will consider an offer for Ousmane Dembele in January, should one arrive from Manchester United.
The Reds were heavily linked with the Frenchman throughout the summer, with it believed they were looking at him as an alternative to Jadon Sancho.
A move never happened, though, with Dembele refusing to move from the Nou Camp and insisting he would stay to fight for his place under new manager Ronald Koeman.
That is something he has done, establishing himself as a regular under the Dutchman in La Liga and the Champions League.
However, the links to Manchester United have not gone away, with it believed they could return in the January transfer window.
That is the tone from Mundo Deportivo journalist Miguel Rico, who say that there are ‘contacts’ between the player and United.
He says that Barça are aware that the Frenchman is a player who has ‘always interested’ Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and as far as they are concerned United are ‘still looking’ at signing Dembele in future.
The player, for his part, has ‘no intention’ of leaving the Nou Camp but he states that ‘you never know’ and as things stand if a ‘good offer’ arrives from Manchester United in January then it will be ‘studied with care’.
That is basically an open invitation from Barcelona for Manchester United to make a move, which would make sense given who it is coming from.
Rico is well connected with Barcelona, as are Mundo Deportivo as a whole, and this very much feels like Barcelona hoping they can reignite the interest from the summer, probably because they need cash quick to sort out their finances.
Whether United are willing to deal is another matter entirely, but if you start to see Dembele linked with a move to Old Trafford over the next month and January, we’ll know why.
