It’s probably best to start this off by making one thing very clear. The vast majority of European articles on the future of Edinson Cavani have been in no doubt that his likeliest move during the January window is Atletico Madrid.
Chelsea and Manchester United have been mentioned, and the Premier League clubs seem to be taking it in turn to provide the presented competition for Atletico.
Friday’s edition of Le Parisien says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have asked for ‘information’, and Manchester United are ‘sensitive to the profile of the Uruguayan’.
Asking for information likely means trying to find the cost of a move and whether Cavani would be interested.
For anyone to sign the striker this month, PSG need to agree and it hasn’t been in their plans to let him go. There’s even been suggestions from France this week that PSG had been considering extending their player’s contract.
Now, with his will to move well known, it could come down to money. The Ligue 1 side have had one offer so far, around €10m, and it hasn’t been enough.
Given Cavani turns 33 years of age in February, and his contract expires in the summer, clubs will be reluctant to spend much more.
