Manchester United have emerged as a new contender to sign Palmeiras’ Richard Ríos this summer.
That’s according to Goal in Brazil, who say the Red Devils recently asked about the 24-year-old.
It’s claimed Manchester United have signaled that they are ‘already preparing an offer’ of around £17m to sign him.
The Colombia international impressed for the national team at the Copa América, which has clearly not gone unnoticed in Europe.
Palmeiras would be aware of this as they are ‘preparing to receive a series’ of approaches for him in this window. The report adds there could be a few from European clubs in the next few days.
Goal say Palmeiras haven’t been officially contacted so far, and this indicates Manchester United would have made contact with his camp.
Ríos has been at the Brazilian club since March 2023 and his deal lasts until December 2026. Despite being aware that other clubs could sign the player, the report states Palmeiras’ intention is to retain him, at least until the end of this year.
‘What is certain is that the club will not negotiate [to sell] Ríos this summer. It’s normal for people to be interested, but the club’s position is clear on the issue,’ a source told Goal.
Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira claims his side have already raised funds and there’s no need for them to sell more players in this window.
“We’ve already made a lot of money from sales. Now, we need to focus on alternatives within the field,” Ferreira said recently.
These factors make it difficult for Erik ten Hag’s side or another club to sign the player this summer.
But, obviously, not impossible…
