If Sunday’s opening game against Brighton & Hove Albion showed anything, it’s that Manchester United are still a long way off from where they want to be.

There was a lot of expectation ahead of Erik ten Hag’s first official game in charge, but the Red Devils showed almost no improvement on the terrible displays from last season, falling to a 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford to Graham Potter’s men.

New faces are needed and some are expected to arrive in the coming weeks, but while Frenkie de Jong still seems to be the priority, other avenues are being worked on too.

The latest appears to be Adrien Rabiot, with multiple reports suggesting Manchester United are in talks to sign the Frenchman from Juventus, where he has less than 12 months left on his contract.

Rudy Galetti joined everyone else on Monday by taking to Twitter to explain the Old Trafford are ‘in advanced talks’ for the France international, and the club are ‘very close to reaching an agreement’.

In fact, Manchester United ‘will discuss’ with the player’s agent, his mother Véronique Rabiot, ‘in the coming days’ in order to ‘find a solution on the salary’.
