Manchester United have ‘accelerated’ their attempts to sign Atalanta star Cristian Romero in a deal that could reach €45m.
That’s according to journalist Jorge Baravalle, who says the defender ‘looks set’ to be the big major Argentiain mover of this transfer window.
Manchester United are thought to be on the hunt for a new centre-back this summer, with it felt that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified centre-back as a position that needs major improvement.
They have subsequently linked with several around Europe, who has been named as a possible target for months.
Things appear to have accelerated over the last few days, with Eco di Bergamo first reporting a €45m offer and then journalist Gianluigi Longari stating there had been talks between the two clubs.
Baravalle has now backed that up, stating that Manchester United have ‘accelerated’ their interest in the Argentina international.
He states that Atalanta could be tempted into a sale for €45m, a massive profit given they will be buying Romero from Juventus for €16m.
That’s all he provides at this point, so we’ll have to take things with a pinch of salt, particularly as we covered Baravalle’s claims regarding Moises Caicedo last year, and they came to nothing.
Romero stories appear to have been picking up pace for a while now, though, so there may be something in these claims.
