It’s no surprise that Ederson’s potential transfer to Manchester City is covered again by the Portuguese media on Sunday. It’s not the biggest story in the country’s sport media today, because Benfica face Vitória de Guimarães in the cup final this evening.

Portuguese newspaper Record report the final is likely to be Ederson’s last for Benfica as his transfer to Manchester City ‘is in full swing’. It’s pointed out the 23 year old goalkeeper would love to bow out with another trophy.

Record’s Sunday slant on the cost is that Benfica are determined to come out of the deal with €30m. That’s difficult because Ederson’s former club Rio Ave are due 50%, with Jorge Mendes’ agency Gestifute due a cut of Rio Ave’s share.

On Saturday it had been reported in Portugal that Benfica would be getting less than €30m, but Record disagree. They believe Benfica are sticking to their demand.

Whatever the final fee, and Record don’t state they know, it’s pointed out that Ederson’s move will be one of the record transfers of a goalkeeper.

And, in the unlikely case he goes for his full €60m release clause, will make the Brazilian the most expensive goalkeeper of all time.

This one could still hit several hurdles over the percentage cuts, but with Jorge Mendes involved, and currently cosying up to Manchester City, it should be solvable.
