Alexis Sanchez isn’t the biggest story for Chile’s sport media on Wednesday.

No, Arturo Vidal hasn’t had another party, but the country have survived a CAS ruling over losing points awarded to them in World Cup Qualifying.

Following a 0-0 draw with Bolivia, La Verde were found to have fielded an ineligible player so Chile were subsequently awarded a 3-0 win and extra 2 points. This was appealed and CAS have ruled in Chile’s favour.

Sanchez has to make do with second best on the news front, and whilst most of the Chilean press don’t pretend to know anything right now, but are happy to talk up a Manchester City story, El Mercurio strike it out alone.

El Mercurio have history on Sanchez to Manchester City.

In December 2016 they reported Pep Guardiola was already speaking to Sanchez about a 2018 free transfer. The Manchester City manager was furious with the claims, and publicly called the journalist involved a liar.

That didn’t deter El Mercurio who have since published a string of claims about Sanchez, Manchester City and Bayern Munich. Contract details for a supposed Bayern move were published, but it turned out to be complete nonsense, or a lie as Guardiola may say.

On Wednesday they claim Manchester City have sent a delegation to Chile, with the aim to complete a deal for Sanchez. The identity of the people is a ‘mystery’ but El Mercurio believe they could be lawyers.

The delegates have arrived in Santiago just in case Arsenal accept an offer, ready to get the legal side of things sorted.

Mysterious Manchester City lawyers roaming Santiago, paperwork in hand, ready to jump as soon as they get the word from HQ.

Take all that as you will.
