Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne is not just a ridiculously talented footballer, he also seems to be a very nice man too. Helping out a long term friend in football would go without saying, and De Bruyne has been assisting Kenneth Staelens.
The pair were together at Racing Genk and have been very close since. Whilst De Bruyne’s career went from strength to strength, Staelens dropped out of top level football.
In 2014, when Staelens was playing for KSK Hasselt, De Bruyne told Belgium’s Humo magazine: “That he is now playing in third division has to do with luck. Injuries and having no chance.”
A recent ankle injury, and being without the assistance of a club medical team, led to Staelens getting advice from his friend… and that was to travel to Manchester.
Quoted by Belgian newspaper Het Belang van Limburg, Stealens explains: “It was not one of the club doctors, but one that he knows well. He has a special device so the bleeding will disappear faster. I do have a good feeling.”
The mystery doctor isn’t named, but it seems De Bruyne has already built up his own medical support team. Staelens is hopeful he can return to play football soon, and of his useful firend, the 25 year old said: “We played together in our youth at Genk. I then left for Roda, but then we found each other again. I hope now to get fit as soon as possible.”
