Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Rocco Reitz has ended up on Manchester City’s transfer agenda.

That’s at least what Bild are reporting, and they say Manchester City’s interest in the 22-year-old is ‘well known’.

The midfielder graduated from Gladbach’s youth system and made his way into their first team in 2020. Reitz started to feature regularly since the start of last season and has become an integral part of their squad.

Reitz’s ‘outstanding’ development at the Bundesliga side would have seen Manchester City take notice. Pep Guardiola’s side won’t find it easy to sign him, at least in the winter market.

Bild asked Gladbach managing director Roland Virkus about the possibility of losing Reitz and Ko Itakura to Manchester City and PSV Eindhoven respectively in January.

“Our goal is of course not to give up a top player, that’s very clear,” he said.

“After all, we are currently in the process of stabilising ourselves and getting better step by step. It’s true that there are desires, that’s completely normal when you perform well. But we are in a very comfortable situation.

“Rocco represents the path that this club wants to take, which we had previously neglected. He can become one of the faces of the whole club!

“You always have to be prepared for all scenarios. It may also be that we bring in someone else if, for example, there is already a chance to do something that is planned for the summer. For one or two players, a loan might also be conceivable.”

In this way, the report states Virkus ‘slows down’ Manchester City’s pursuit of the player.

According to Bild, Pep Guardiola’s side have to make a ‘breathtakingly high offer’ for the German club to consider selling Reitz in January. There’s no mention of the fee needed to convince Mönchengladbach.

Rodri’s long-term absence has seen Manchester City get linked to a few midfielders. It needs to be seen whether they will bring in a new player in the same position in January.
