Since Cristiano Ronaldo’s Covid diagnosis came out, the Portuguese media has been wondering about the effects it could have on other players from the national team.

The first concern was about those who feature in the Premier League, since the British government requires travellers to spend 14 days in quarantine, and being in contact with a sick teammate could take them out of the exception rule.

It was proved that for being at a national team camp, these players would still be protected by that regulation, regardless of spending time with Cristiano Ronaldo, José Fonte and Anthony Lopes, who all tested positive for Covid.

Now a new question is raised, which was about Porto’s trip to face Manchester City for the Champions League next week, but according to O Jogo, the game should take place with no further issues.

Pepe and Sergio Oliveira are the two Porto players who had been with the national team, while Manchester City stars João Cancelo, Rúben Dias and Bernardo Silva were all in the same camp as well.

O Jogo takes the documents from the British government to show Pepe and Oliveira are still allowed to feature in the Champions League clash.

All they need to do is to stay with Porto’s group in a hotel, and only leave their wing when going to the Etihad Stadium. The rules are the same as for the rest of the Porto squad and their staff.

Apart from those three players, no one else in Portugal’s squad tested positive, so that’s a concern which should disappear in the coming days.
