Since Manchester City loaned Pedro Porro to Sporting at the start of the season, we’ve been seeing stories in the Portuguese press talking about how good the player has been for the Lions.
The fullback needed no time to adapt to his new club, and has started all of their games in the Europa League and the Portuguese League so far.
Now things have got even better for the 21-year-old in Lisbon, as he scored from a free-kick against Famalicão at the weekend, and is getting some huge praise for that.
Newspaper O Jogo brings a story crediting manager Ruben Amorin for letting Porro take free kicks, as the player has always been a set piece specialist, but didn’t have chances at his other clubs.
O Jogo learned that Porro spends extra hours training set pieces at Sporting, and even in the warm up for the game against Famalicão, he spent more minutes on the pitch so he could practice. The same has been happening when away with Spain’s youth ranks.
Porro’s start to the season with Sporting makes it very clear that the Lisbon side are likely to keep him. The loan runs until 2022, and there’s a buying clause of €8.5m. And even if the Lions don’t accept to pay that much, then Manchester City would have a very valued player back in their squad.
