A less than straightforward Manchester City deal was announced on deadline day. Spanish left-back Angeliño, who had been loaned to Girona at the start of January, ended up being sent to another La Liga side, this time Real Mallorca.

The transfer required an explanation from the Girona sports director Quique Cárcel who in a press conference gave the reasons why the player had to leave the club without even making his debut.

“He is a spectacular player. It isn’t true that we did not like him. What happens is that he is a player in development and has come to a team that is in a positive dynamic and in which there are players who are playing very well,” he said (via Diario de Mallorca).

“That has made us decide to find a place where he could have a more secure participation. It’s the best thing for player growth. Angeliño will do very interesting things, surely.”

Since joining Manchester City in 2013, this will be the 20 year old’s third loan. He already spent a short time at New York City, part of the City group.

Angeliño even managed to make two appearances for Manchester City this season, but is still to be considered ready for the challenge of being a first team player.

A few month impressing at Mallorca and Manchester City will have themselves a ‘spectacular’ player in the summer.
