Despite the lack of stories regarding Manchester City’s interest in Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes lately, Pep Guardiola’s side have not given up on the signing, according to new claims today.
Newspaper Jornal de Notícias features a very short piece to claim that the Premier League champions are still contenders to land the 23-year-old this summer.
The outlet does point out it’s Wolverhampton Wanderers who are the ‘most interested’ club in him, but warns that Manchester City can still be labelled as competition.
Jornal de Notícias writes that the Cityzens have watched Nunes many times this season, and ‘will start talks’ for a potential €45m transfer.
There aren’t any other details in this story, which actually came out of nothing, despite the many previous links between Manchester City and Nunes.
The €45m fee is exactly how much the Portuguese media has been saying Wolves are offering for the player this summer, with €5m more in bonuses.
Some outlets even say the deal is ready for the player to move to the Molineux, as the clubs are only waiting for him to return from his holidays in Brazil to sign the contract.
However, newspaper Record today wrote that agent Jorge Mendes is attentive to potential other deals, meaning that if Manchester City are indeed ready to make an attempt and offer the same as Bruno Lage’s side, then they should stand a good chance.
