Tuttosport Golden Boy September 29th 2016Manchester City have two players in their squad up for Tuttosport’s prestigious Golden Boy award this year.

Awarded to the best U21 player registered with a European club, the award is now in its 14th year and has been won by some of the biggest names in football.

Lionel Messi won the award all the way back in 2005, the year after Wayne Rooney had picked it up. Manchester City’s very own sergio Aguero won the award in 2007 whilst with Atletico Madrid, helping to bring the Argentine to the attention of clubs around Europe.

In 2010 Manchester City was the destination of the award as Mario Balotelli picked it up, and the two City nominees this year would love to follow him.

Leroy Sane has been nomianted after impressing at Schalke, and Kelechi Iheanacho is on the list too. The 19 year old Nigerian forward has been a real boost for Manchester City, and this recoginiton is well deserved.

Neither of the Manchester City players are among the favourties to win, but that could change, and the general recognition will be welcome.
