Since Pep Guardiola took the Manchester City job, one of his desires has been often reported by the Spanish media: signing a goalkeeper from Barcelona.
It didn’t matter who. Barça have two good keepers who could be the number one in several European top sides, and both of them, Ter Stegen and Claudio Bravo, were linked to Manchester City in the past few months.
Now as Super Deporte have an article saying that the Brazilian goalkeeper Diego Alves could be leaving Valencia to Barcelona, they claim he could be replacing one of the players who are going to City.
Not only Diego Alves, but Pepe Reina, who has also been linked to the Catalan club, is said to be a possible replacement for one of them.
It’s quite a weird situation. First of all, Pep Guardiola doesn’t look like the kind of man who would say “sign one of Barça’s keepers, any of them would be fine”. It’s also strange that Ter Stegen and Bravo’s name are only mentioned once in the article, as if the transfers to City didn’t deserve any attention.
This approach was not only made by Super Deporte, but also by Mundo Deportivo, who covered the report and didn’t even comment on the Barça’s players departure. They treat it as an obvious and natural move.
Tomorrow there’ll no doubt be a new pile of Manchester City goalkeeper claims coming from Spain.
