Earlier today we covered claims from Spain that Asier Riesgo was ‘one step from saying yes’ to Manchester City and ‘taking an opportunity he never dreamed of having’.

The Eibar goalkeeper had been a little nervous about the move, despite realising what a great chance it is, but has been reassured by people involved with the deal.

Marca now reports the agreement between the 35 year old and Manchester City is ‘total’ and ‘will be made official in the coming days’.

Riesgo will initially join on a one year contract as the club’s third choice goalkeeper. Including in the agreement is also the opportunity for the Spaniard to then become a coach with the club’s youth system.

He’ll receive double the money he was earning at Eibar, and Marca say the opportunity is beyond what he ever imagined may happen.

Asier Mancisidor, Manchester City’s goalkeeping coach, worked with Riesgo at Real Sociedad, and that’s where the idea for the signing has come from.

Rather than there being a worry about potentially getting no minutes, Marca say the footballer will ‘go to work every day with a smile’, just because he’s a part of such a great squad.
