Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet declare on Monday ‘Dolberg har ramt superformen’, and whilst the striker’s super form would usually be wonderful news in Denmark, right now they could do without it.
That’s because on Thursday FC Copenhagen take a slender 2-1 lead to Ajax in the Europa League, and Denmark’s latest boy wonder could be the man to knock them out. Four goals in his last four games have helped hype up Kasper Dolberg again, after much excitement earlier in the season.
In November Manchester City scout Sebastian Arnesen spoke to the Danish media and revealed his club are keen: “We keep a very close eye on him, and when the time is right we’ll make a decision on whether we should act on it.”
“He has a huge potential. He is tall, strong, brave and quick. He has an excellent touch, can play with his back to the goal and make the right decisions. And he can finish from anywhere. He is so special, and therefore he is of course also on the radar.”
It would be no surprise if Dolberg’s recent form has again alerted Arnesen and Manchester City, with the 19 year old being of interest to several clubs.
There could well be a scramble to sign Dolberg in the summer, but he’s probably better staying where he is for now. Manchester City are well stocked and there’s no obvious need for Dolberg, so like at a lot of top clubs he could see his progress halted.
Ajax are surely a big enough club to saitsfy Dolberg for at least another season. And then, Manchester City may find themselves in a different situation regarding what they need upfront.
