Manchester City have taken steps to sign AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma in the last few hours, reports Sky Italia (via Calciomercato).
The 17-year-old is highly regarded in Italy, and has been tracked by several top European clubs. Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Juventus are also keen on signing Donnarumma, who has already made his debut for the Italian national team.
Calciomercato say no formal offers have been made yet for the Italian goalkeeper, but could arrive in the coming months, with Pep Guardiola’s team most interested in signing him.
Donnarumma’s current deal expires in 2018, but negotiations over a new deal have been going on for sometime. Calciomercato say AC Milan want him to sign on a five year deal, which could be agreed in February when he turns 18.
Manchester City signed Claudio Bravo this summer, but the Chilean has failed to make an immediate impact. It’s very like Bravo will be given a fair chance to establish himself as the first choice goalkeeper, before Manchester City give up on him.
Donnarumma is represented by Mino Raiola, which means transfer rumours are to be expected. The youngster is a commanding figure, but doesn’t immediately stand out as the type of goalkeeper Guardiola would go crazy for.
Leaving Milan doesn’t make a great deal of sense at this stage in the player’s career, it would look more like impatience than ambition. Overwhelmingly the likeliest scenario here is Donnarumma renewing, but until that happens they’ll be rumours which put pressure on the Rossoneri.
Even when Donnarumma renews, the rumours about his future will continue.
Because Mino Raiola.
