Imagine taking an Uber ride and finding out that the trip made it to the news. As you may be aware now, that’s what happened to Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus this week.
Despite being a starlet in Brazil, Jesus never had this treatment from the press at Palmeiras. He was a celebrity, of course, but the stalking had its limits.
This change in his life was one of the subjects in the player’s interview with Radio Bradesco (via ESPN Brasil) on Wednesday, and despite treating it with good sense of humor, he admits being bothered by it.
Speaking of his family’s privacy, the Manchester City player said: “I’ve already asked for permission that, if a paparazzi comes, I’ll give him a boxing. Bloody annoying! If it was in Brazil, oh my God.”
As a side note, Gabriel Jesus seems to be a good boy and certainly wouldn’t punch a photographer. This is clearly a funny way for him to say he’s been shocked by the episode.
The player also talked about Manchester City’s dressing room: “There are many leaders. But the joker is Bacary [Sagna], the nicest one. He wishes to go to Brazil.”
Speaking of taking Kun Aguero’s place in the team, Jesus claims there’s no rivalry between them: “Since I got here everyone treated me very well, including him. The reception from everyone has been helping me to adapt quickly and we understand each other.
“I treat our relationship as normal, if he plays I will root for him and I believe he roots for me when I play. He is very professional, I see that he trains hard. This rivalry is due to the fans who comment, because inside the squad he is calm.”
If Gabriel Jesus continues his Manchester City career as he’s started it off then he can expect even more attention from the media. Maybe he should buy some boxing gloves.
