Vincent Kompany has been struggling with injuries in recent years, and it seems to be a recurring issue.
The Belgian star made his first appearance this season against Everton, but was left out of the matchday squad against Barcelona, which raised fitness concerns again.
Kompany, however, started his first game of the season last weekend in a 1-1 draw against Southampton. The Manchester City skipper has been speaking to Belgian website HLN on his return to fitness.
He said: “Of course it’s hard to get back, but I know now well enough what I need to do to get back on track.”
Kompany was asked why he was left out of the squad against Barcelona. The 30-year-old insists he wants to be honest with the medical team, and that they made a decision accordingly.
He said: “Look, my situation is very simple. I think you can make the mistake of going to analyse everything. I’ve been six months out, I have made one promise to the medical staff.
“I would be honest with them, I would tell them how I felt and that I would listen when they took a decision. I told them one day before the match what was going on for me and they have made the decision for me.”
Kompany played 78 minutes against Southampton, and could feature again against Manchester United in the League Cup on Wednesday night.
Manchester City defenders have made quite a few individual errors in recent matches, and Kompany certainly has the quality to help fix the defence.
