Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne has revealed he’s been in ‘serious pain’ this season, with his injury issues taking longer to fix than expected.

De Bruyne is widely considered as one of the best midfielders in the world but has struggled to hit his highest heights for Manchester City this season.

The Belgian midfielder only has three goals and an assist in 12 games to his name this season, a far cry from the numbers we’ve been accustomed to him producing down the years.

Part of that has been down to injury, with him missing clashes against Norwich and Arsenal with an ankle injury early on in the campaign.

That saw him spend 40 days on the sidelines and is his fifth injury in this calendar year, having spent nearly a month out with two separate facial fractures, ten days with a muscle injury and another month with a hamstring injury at the beginning of the year.

It’s meant that he has struggled to find his best form for Manchester City, and he admits things have not been great.

“It’s a bit harder than usual this year,” Het Nieuwsblad report him saying.

“It’s not too bad, I think, but it has been a bit difficult physically and mentally.

“I came back with a lot of pain after the holidays, and then at the start of the season, I had my face against the wall.

“I’ve had some serious pain, but it’s starting to get better. I just needed more time than expected.”
