Manchester City star Ferran Torres has been labelled an ‘inspiration’ for younger players at his former club Valencia.
The young Spaniard moved to the Eithad in a £20m move last summer, in what has since proven to be one of the bargains of last season.
He’s not looked back since his arrival and currently sits on 16 goals and four assists in 43 games for Manchester City so far.
He’s also been a revelation on the international stage, establishing himself as one of the stars for La Rioja with 12 goals and an assist in 22 games so far.
Valencia obviously remain disappointed that they lost him to Manchester City, particularly for what now appears to be a very low price indeed.
Despite that, though, they remain proud to see a player who worked his way up through every level of their youth ranks now flourishing on the international stage.
“When you see a young player like Ferran Torres make the jump to Manchester City and also play for the Spanish national team, it’s a very good example of the level that young players can reach here,” Estadio Deportivo report the director of their academy Sean Bai saying.
“Especially those who come from the Valencia CF Academy. It is a great inspiration and a beautiful story for all the young players here.
“Also, the fact that we have had one of the youngest teams in LaLiga for many years. Even for our youth team, we trust the youngsters and give them opportunities.”
