Manchester City star Sergio Aguero is hoping that changing his shirt number could turn his luck with the national team.

The past few years haven’t been any good for them. Apart from a title drought since 1993, Argentina have been runner ups in the 2014 World Cup and in last two editions of Copa America (2015 and 2016).

They’re now in sixth place of the World Cup qualifiers, as only the first five get a spot in the tournament. The last two results weren’t any good either, being a draw against Venezuela and another one against Peru, when Sergio Aguero missed a penalty.

Speaking to TyC sports (via La Gaceta Deportiva), the Manchester City striker revealed all the change of numbers in the Argentina squad for tonight’s match against Brazil.

Aguero played the last game using the number ten, but now should give it back to its owner: “Obviously I’ll give the 10 back to Leo, so he won’t be upset.”

But he won’t get back the number 11 either, because another teammate has asked for it: “Now I’m going to use the 7 because Fideo (Di Maria) wants to change to 11, which is the one he uses at PSG. I have no problem”.

“The request came from Fideo. Meanwhile they can give me from 1 to 23, I’d take any. Let’s see if it changes the luck.”
