Despite being in some financial difficulties, Barcelona continue to aim high on the transfer market, with the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva on their list of summer targets.

The Portuguese playmaker, who remains an importance piece of Pep Guardiola’s plans, has become a player the club see as a potential replacement for Frenkie De Jong should the Dutchman head to the other side of Manchester, thus allowing for a deal to be struck.

Sport, on Monday afternoon, have released an article claiming the Manchester City star is ‘closer to Barcelona’, as he ‘wants to play at the Camp Nou.

While it’s seen as a ‘difficult operation’, it could become a ‘reality’ if the right stars align, as they want to ‘significantly increase the competitive level of the team’.

The Portugal international ‘would be an ideal player’ to make that happen should De Jong leave for United after ‘his agent, Jorge Mendes, put his name on the table’ during the last meeting he held with Barcelona.

Buying the Manchester City man ‘is totally conditioned to the exit’ of the Dutch midfielder, but the Catalans ‘have the complicity and the footballer’s desire to play for the Blaugrana in their favour’.

Something to keep in mind going forward.
