Over the past week or so, the Spanish media have been quite pleased on behalf of Asier Riesgo.

The 35 year old goalkeeper has had a steady career in Spanish football, and is currently at Eibar. After being recommended to Pep Guardiola by Manchester City’s goalkeeping department, Mikel Arteta then did some research and decided the veteran would be a good option as third choice for next season.

Report from Spain have explained that the signing would also be with a view to Riesgo then taking up a role coaching with the club’s youth system.

It’s a fantastic opportunity which enables him not only to be at such a good club for the end of his career, but to take steps for what happens afterwards.

Yet, it’s still not official.

Mundo Deportivo are confident, though, and report the signing will be ‘official in the coming days’.

Eibar are already looking for a replacement, and the Riesgo’s departure is very much an amicable one.
