Manchester City continued their plundering of youth academies this week, as Mundo Deportivo report on Friday afternoon they have signed Oscar Tarensi from Espanyol.
The 16-year-old, described as one of the ‘jewels’ of the La Liga’s youth teams, is a left-back, and will sign for the Cityzens next Monday before returning to Barcelona on May 17th in order to finish his studies at the Escuela Turbula.
Tarensi will then join Manchester City permanently on July 1st.
With Benjamin Mendy seemingly constantly injured, Pep Guardiola has had to use makeshift left-backs throughout the season, ranging from Aymeric Laporte to the latest mainstay in the role, Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Stocking up on youngsters at the role could be a good way of ensuring at least one of them eventually makes it into the first-team, perhaps even allowing the Ukrainian to play in his natural role in midfield.
We aren’t there yet, as Tarensi certainly won’t be starting for the first-team next season, but with some more development under his belt, who knows?
Our bet is he ends up at Girona for a season first.
