Three Salvadoran boys are ready to have a trial period at Manchester City, El Savador.com reports.
The exchange is an action made by a football clinic sponsored by Digicel, a phone company which works on the Carribean area.
After a long proccess that involved 45 players from 14 different countries, only 12 boys were picked, with El Salvador being the only nation with three players.
Now these 12 teenagers have flown to Manchester, where they will train at the club and try to impress the coaches. According to the report, the two best of them will be selected to stay and become a Manchester City Academy player.
“We’ll give everything on the pitch. We’re thrilled to have the chance to represent El Salvador, to fullfil our dream and to train with a team like Manchester City”, said Armando Gómez, one of the boys.
The boys were already present at the Premier League match against Southampton this weekend, when City got a 1-1 draw.
Danny Rodríguez, Digicel’s director, said: “We are very proud to encourage young talents to fullfil their dreams and we know they have a great chance to qualify in this third and final phase of the Academy. From the beginning, the Manchester City coaches were shocked with the footballing talent that exists in the country and at Digicel, we’ll support this until the end”.
The clinic’s goal is to give youngsters an opportunity to reach the European leagues. They consider that a trial at a big club is enough to give the boys a chance, as their prospects of becoming a succesful football player in Central America aren’t exactly the best.
