Manchester City are ‘looking at’ a move for Villarreal defender Pau Torres ahead of the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Cadena SER journalist Xavi Sidro, who says they are set to compete with Erik ten Hag and co. for his signature.
He reports that Manchester City have ‘set their eyes’ on the Spanish defender, whose performances have ‘attracted’ their attention.
They are now ‘interested in his services’ ahead of next season, especially if any of their current defensive options were to leave in the summer window.
At the moment, the Spanish side have not received an official offer from any of the interested parties, but his representatives have ‘received interest’ from both Manchester clubs.
Torres does have a €70m clause in his current contract, although Villarreal will not close the door to negotiations at a figure below that month.
This is not the first time a Premier League club have been interested in the centre-back, with Tottenham making a €50m bid last summer.
Villarreal were willing to sanction a deal at that price, but the player turned the move down, preferring to stay where he was and play Champions League football.
That’s worked out as Villarreal have reached the semi-finals of the competition this season, something which has increased his value in the process, with Villarreal now not willing to negotiate a deal ‘for less than €60m.’
