Manchester City and Stefan Ortega seem to be having some difficulty agreeing a contract extension.
According to Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg, the talks for a renewal until 2026 are ‘significantly stalled’.
It’s claimed that Ortega and Manchester City can’t find an agreement, ‘especially on financial aspects’.
There’s also the fact that the goalkeeper would like to be number one in the future, regardless of the club he’s at.
Ortega’s current contract with Manchester City runs until 2025, but it’s claimed that in case they don’t find a deal before the summer, then he’s set to leave them.
Despite being the team’s alternative for Ederson, Ortega still managed to make 19 appearances this season so far, gaining importance in the final Premier League games after the Brazilian’s injury.
Ederson, who suffered a facial fracture, is now set to miss the FA Cup final against Manchester United, so the German goalkeeper will have a new chance to prove himself. Maybe a great performance in the final game of the season will help him get the contract he wants.
