Real Sociedad fear Manchester City will come calling for Mikel Oyarzabal this summer after selling Leroy Sané to Bayern Munich.
Sané finally completed a €50m move to Bayern this week after more than a year of speculation about a potential switch.
The German was heavily linked with a move last summer, and it was close to being completed before a knee injury suffered in the Charity Shield ended his season.
Bayern have returned this year and finally got their man at a reduced rate, using the fact he was in the final year of his deal with Manchester City to their advantage.
City will now be on the hunt for a replacement and according to Mundo Deportivo a ‘fear has been reborn’ for Real Sociedad; that City will come for Oyarzabal.
The forward was named as a potential successor to Sané last summer and City ‘surveyed’ him ahead of the German’s possible departure.
That never happened, of course, but they now have the €50m from his departure to spend, and Oyarzabal is a player who is on their list.
Mundo say Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is a big fan and is ‘in love with his game’, while the rest of City’s hierarchy are aware of him because of their Gipuzkoa roots.
Any deal, though, will be an expensive one with the forward locked down on a deal until 2024 which includes a release clause of €75m, a fee that would have to be paid in full.
At the moment there has been no movement on that front and Oyarzabal is focused on finishing the campaign but ‘there is the possibility’ City will make their move at some point this summer.
