Real Sociedad goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli has been strongly linked to Manchester City in the last few days.

The 24-year-old actually belongs to Uruguayan club Deportivo Maldonado, who sent him on loan to Real Sociedad last season. Maldonado are used as a holding club by investment companies who loan players out and then look to make a profit.

According to Catalan based newspaper Mundo Deportivo on Saturday, Manchester City are in the ‘process of signing’ Rulli, but the intention is to leave him at Real Sociedad on loan.

MD say Rulli could stay on loan at Real Sociedad for a year or two. Manchester City have several players on loan in Spain, as they look to sell them once their value increases, and Rulli could be a part of a similar plan.

It is reported Joe Hart isn’t in the future plans of Pep Guardiola, but it appears Rulli isn’t either.

It would be intriguing if Manchester City did get involved in this. At 24 year of age, Rulli isn’t exactly a youth who the club could look to the future for, and given the status of his ownership it looks like a can of worms.
