Manchester City invested heavily in strengthening their defence during the last window as the Citizens signed Nathan Aké and Rúben Dias from AFC Bournemouth and Benfica respectively.
The Premier League side have now reportedly set their sights on Alessandro Bastoni.
According to Calciomercato.it, ‘big names’ have ‘already appeared’ for the 21-year-old and that’s when City get a mention.
They state Pep Guardiola’s side have ‘probed the ground’ for signing Bastoni, but the Serie A club have other plans for the defender.
It’s claimed Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta is ‘at work to secure’ the player’s future by offering him a new deal. His current deal runs down in 2023.
The Italian currently earns €1.5m [most likely net] per season at the San Siro. Marotta would like to offer a new deal which could see his wages rise to just below €3m.
The defender’s entourage, however, would like Inter to break the €3m barrier for Bastoni. Calciomercato.it states these details will be discussed in a meeting that is to be ‘fixed shortly’.
Bastoni has made five appearances in all competitions under Antonio Conte this season and this includes four starts.
