It’s fair to say that Leroy Sané has had a difficult couple of weeks. The Manchester City star was linked with a move to Bayern Munich all summer, and it seemed that a move was on the cards at some point.
However, Sané then started in the Community Shield win over Liverpool but picked up an injury early on, with it later confirmed he had suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee.
That requires surgery which will rule him out for the best part of this season and, at least for the time being, eliminates any chance of him moving to Bayern.
The last update on the situation was that Sané had gone against City’s wishes in his choice of doctor. The 23-year-old chose Dr Christian Fink to operate on him, a man who just so happens to be Bayern’s preferred doctor.
Bild now report that Sané underwent the required surgery on Sunday evening, having flown out to Innsbruck after watching City draw with Tottenham on Saturday, and the operation was a success.
He will now spend a few days in Innsbruck recuperating before, presumably, returning to City to start the long rehabilitation process.
A knee ligament injury can take as much as nine months to recover from, with Sané set to spend a minimum of six months on the sidelines recovering.
