Samir Nasri is spending the season on loan at Sevilla from Manchester City, after falling out of manager Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven plans.
The Frenchman was on the scoresheet last night in Sevilla’s 3-2 win against Leganes, continuing a brilliant start to his time in Spain, one which has made him a star man for Sevilla.
Shortly after the game, Nasri spoke to France’s RMC Sport, and was asked about last season.
Nasri insisted it was very difficult for him, but now he is ready to mount a comeback at Sevilla: “Last year, it has been very difficult for me, the most difficult of my career. From time to time, I didn’t play. It’s mad but this isn’t the same when you’re away from the pitch for six months, and find yourself in the stands watching the others.
“Here, we realise that we‘re lucky to do this job, if I can call it a job. I’ve got this new awareness.
“I made a comeback, I worked. I said to myself: “You’re not burnt out, you just turned 29 years old, show them all that you‘re always there, you can still play at a high level’.”
Nasri also claimed Guardiola wanted him to stay, but he managed to convince him.
He added: “I managed to change Guardiola’s mind, who wanted me to stay, which is not easy. I made this choice to come here because I had a discussion with the coach. I knew that here is fun. Sevilla, it’s a club that gives rebirth to a lot of players, and for me, it was the perfect setting.”
Nasri has managed two goals and one assist in the 7 appearances he has made so far this season.
