There will always be a reason for a cup game between Benfica and Porto to have some controversy.
Things got even bigger last night, as the refereeing wasn’t the best, and ended up being the big subject in the Portuguese media today.
Now besides many club officials and journalists all commenting on the alleged mistakes made by the referee, Manchester City player Bernardo Silva has also ended up getting involved in the situation.
It started with the midfielder tweeting right after a Benfica goal which was disallowed with the use of VAR.
“Am I the one that needs glasses or … ????”, tweeted the player.
Right after that, Porto’s communication director Francisco Marques responded, showing an image from a mistake the referee made against Porto.
“Hello @BernardoCSilva, yes, it looks like you’re in need of glasses, we’ll be happy to offer you a pair when you come to play for the national team in June. To see the degrees, in the second image do you see any irregularities?”
Then Bernardo Silva claimed he’s aware of mistakes against both sides, but still took the chance to push things further.
“Hello @FranciscoMarkes, I see, yes, too! Fortunately and despite being a benfiquista I do not see just one side. But as I was watching a live football game yesterday and not a year late… But I accept the glasses! Degrees? If I’m not mistaken, it’s 36.”
This is the number of Portuguese League titles won by Benfica, while Porto have 28.
He doesn’t look like he’s got it in him, but Bernardo wasn’t backing down.
Olá @FranciscoMarkes , vejo sim também! Felizmente e apesar de ser benfiquista nao vejo só para um dos lados. Mas como eu ontem estava a ver um jogo de futebol em direto e não com um ano de atraso… Mas aceito os óculos! Dioptrias? Se não me engano são 36 🤷🏻♂️
