It’s no secret Claudio Bravo lives in constant conflict with the Chilean media. The Manchester City goalkeeper is often complaining about the treatment that he and the national team get, and his actions were recently criticised by a TV pundit.

But after two World Cup qualifying games, the 33-year-old decided to welcome the local outlet 24horas.cl to his house, and opened up about several subjects, including his future in the national team and Manchester City.

Asked about Chile’s current generation of players, the goalkeeper claims there’s not much time left for them, and talked about his own retirement: “The ones who have been here for more time have a tremendous wear, there’s the issue of age as well. I believe after the next World Cup we already have to think of other generation, other boys have to show up, young people who mix with us.

“Young people already have to start show up at their clubs, to stand out at a high level… I think we do not see ourselves in the long term. In my case, I do not see beyond the World Cup, also because of the age, it’s time to let the others play.”

Bravo was also obviously questioned about his difficult situation at Manchester City. The Chilean press have been giving big coverage to what happens to the goalkeeper in England, something that he finds a bit exaggerated.

“I have lived in peace, since I was 10 I do the same, I have always had to fight, struggle, work and I think it’s going to be the same thing to the end.

“I’m convinced of my work, my conditions, of what I think when it comes to competing and wanting to show. We are a successful generation, we have a special head that we are competing at this level, those of us that have been in Europe for many years.

“It’s made much bigger when you are having a bad time, that you do not live well… on the contrary, I believe that in life I have been awarded. I have absolutely nothing to complain about.

“Because I didn’t play a game or because I stayed on the bench, I do not see the world on top of me, but on the contrary, it makes me see things differently, it makes me stand with more feet on the Earth than ever, be more aware and alert of everything. It’s what keeps me alive, wanting to keep going.”

So despite all the pressure, he still claims he’s not leaving Pep Guardiola’s side soon: “No, my horizon is there. If I went to Manchester it was because I wanted to play in another league, I think I was a pioneer in what I have done in my position, for something I have lasted so long, and why can a Chilean goalkeeper not play in the Premier League? I take the challenges with a lot of professionalism.”

Bravo’s words make it sound like he’s ready for a challenge at Manchester City, which is fortunate because he’s probably going to get one.”
