Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega has insisted Pep Guardiola is working as hard as he can to turn around their fortunes, dismissing any idea of a resignation.
The German goalkeeper has been speaking to Sky Germany about the current situation at Manchester City and the growing focus on Guardiola.
He’s currently enduring his worst run as a manager to date, losing eight of the last 11 games in all competitions.
The latest defeat came at the hands of rivals Manchester United, with a late collapse from his team seeing Bruno Fernandes convert from the penalty spot after Amad Diallo was brought down rashly by Matheus Nunes and Amad then score a superb solo winner late on.
It was another body blow for Guardiola and Manchester City, with the Catalan coach admitting afterwards that he was not good enough at this moment in time.
The pressure is very much on him to turn things around, with some questioning whether he can change his style and approach to turn around Manchester City.
Ortega certainly believes in his manager and wants to dispel any ideas that Guardiola isn’t working tirelessly to fix the problems.
“He doesn’t like losing, but he is very willing to find a solution,” he said.
“No one can tell me that the coach who previously dominated the whole of England is suddenly too bad. Maybe he’s looking for the solution a little more obsessively.
“He’s still close to being perfect all the time. I think he’s quite positive. He’s really good to us. Also, the charisma he has and the support he gives us.
“Because if you get through this as a team and club and recover as a team – also for you personally – maybe it will be in the end worth something more than another title.”
