Manchester City’s Yan Couto is ‘very close’ to joining Girona, according to L’Esportiu.
The Citizens took the right-back from Brazilian side Coritiba in 2020 and are yet to hand him a chance to feature for their first team.
Manchester City allowed the 20-year-old to spend the last two seasons on loan at Girona and SC Braga.
Prior to joining the Portuguese club last summer, Girona showed interest in signing the player again. They failed in 2021 and have been given a fresh chance to acquire the defender’s services in the ongoing window.
It’s claimed the South American will return to the Spanish side on a loan deal, if there are no last-minute surprises.
Couto had offers from elsewhere, especially from Portugal. He has snubbed them in order to join Girona on a temporary deal. The Catalan club have achieved promotion to La Liga and the Manchester City man is therefore attracted by the prospect of playing in Spain’s top flight.
The defender’s deal with Pep Guardiola’s side runs until June 2025. He would be hoping the second loan spell at Girona may improve his chances of featuring for Manchester City in the future.
