Benjamin Mendy has personally had a season to forget. With just ten appearances in the Premier League, he’s picked up a handful of games elsewhere, but has seen his campaign very much restricted by injury.
There’s also been doubts around his approach to recovery and staying fit, and even suggestions Pep Guardiola could be looking at other options for Manchester City’s left-back role in the long term.
Mendy will surely know that, even if no replacement is brought in this summer, he’ll need to be on top of his game in the next campaign, and fit enough to be a consistent option for Manchester City.
That’s probably why he’s given up his holidays.
L’Equipe report the player intends to stay in Barcelona and concentrate on his recovery there, overseen by Dr. Ramon Cugat, who treated him initially in 2017.
The French newspaper say there are no holidays on the agenda for Mendy and he already considers himself to be in preparation for next season.
There’s a ‘clear purpose’ to end ‘the cycle of injuries’, and if these claims are right, then Mendy’s attitude towards it all looks spot on.
He plans to be ready for Manchester City’s preseason training in July.
