Manchester City defender Pedro Porro has made it clear he would like to sign for Sporting this summer, despite an effort from Real Betis to sign him.
Porro completed a permanent move to the Etihad last summer but has spent this season on loan with Real Valladolid.
He has impressed at the club and, with Manchester City likely to loan him out again this summer, there are several sides interested in him.
One of those is Portugal’s Sporting and reports over the last few weeks have made it clear that they were leading the race for his signature.
However, a deal is yet to be finalised, and that has led Betis to try and manoeuvre themselves for the right-back in the interim.
Record cover the situation today and have positive news for Sporting; Porro has made it clear he would prefer the move to Portugal.
The newspaper explains that Betis are ‘tightening the siege’ on Porro and that could ‘shake up’ the deal that Sporting have been working on.
Those negotiations have ‘evolved satisfactorily’ in recent days but are yet to be completely closed, and that is why Betis are making their move.
Record, though, have learned that Porro was ‘impressed’ by the project Sporting presented to him and as such he has ‘given priority’ to them over Betis.
There are also other factors to consider. Manchester City have a special partnership agreement with Sporting, and that gives them a ‘theoretical advantage’.
Sporting can also offer European football, having ‘practically guaranteed’ Europa League qualification for next season. Playing in Europe would be a ‘career first’ for the youngster, and it’s made clear that is likely to play a significant role in his thinking.
