On Tuesday, fan blog Sporting Até Morrer published a claim that Manchester City midfielder Fernando Reges would be very close to joining the Portuguese side.
They claimed the player would arrive on a two year loan deal, as part of an agreement which would include a €25m bid from Manchester City for the Lions midfielder William Carvalho.
The only big newspaper who covered it today was A Bola. They didn’t give the blog credit, and only claimed that according to their sources, Sporting would still demand €30m for William, regardless of Fernando’s inclusion.
Despite not coming from a well known source, this sounded like a possible deal. Fernando isn’t indispensable at Manchester City, would probably be replaced in case of William’s arrival and has even played in Portugal before joining the English side. It’s a reasonable scenario which would make both parties happy.
That’s why Sport Witness called Fernando’s agent Antonio Araújo, but the representative avoided talking about the rumour: “I won’t comment on that because, for now, there’s no basis.”
Let’s see how things go in the next few weeks.
