Catalan newspaper Sport have picked up claims from Portuguese television that Manchester City and Barcelona are leading the chase to sign Joao Felix.

The Benfica 19 year old has had a brilliant breakthrough season and is thought to have impressed all of Europe’s top clubs. It’s claimed Manchester City are ‘best placed’ to sign the youngster, and Barca also hold a serious interest.

Naturally, we went in search of the Portuguese claims, and they’re from tvi24. This isn’t a source we’ve covered previously, but they do say City and Barca are in the front row.

The journalist fronting the claims, Rui Pedro Braz, pushes it as very much a Pep Guardiola thing, along with the manager’s wish to sign Rodri from Atletico Madrid.

Joao Felix ‘can go to England’ to play for Guardiola’s side next season, but it’s not that simple.

He has a €120m release clause and Benfica want to increase this and keep him for a further year. Earlier this week we covered claims from Portugal that the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, is against any new contract and would prefer a transfer this summer.

If he does go in the current market, the transfer will be hugely expensive, even if Benfica could come down from the €120m figure.

Over the past week, the clubs most linked by the Portuguese media have been Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.
